At last year’s Paris Motor Show, the Land Rover Discovery Sport made its debut. This high quality SUV is the replacement for the Freelander 2, although it offers more space, comfort and sophistication than its predecessor. It is also longer, lower and narrower in its design, yet still offers good ground clearance.

The 2.2litre engine remains, but the Land Rover Discovery Sport includes a range of new features that offer more comfort, space and drivability. The vehicle comes with a 6-speed gearbox as standard, but there is a 9-speed automatic gearbox option. The Discover Sport also includes heated seats, DAB radio, Bluetooth connection and Climate control as standard on all models. The seats have been arranged in a 5+2 layout, so it can seat the driver and a maximum of six passengers.

The vehicle has been finished with high quality materials, giving it a look and feel of luxury. As you would expect from a Land Rover, this model offers excellent visibility, a comfortable driving position, power, speed and agility, which helps the driver to feel confident and in control no matter what the conditions.

Other Options

The starting price for the Land Rover Discovery Sport is £32,395 and higher specification models come in at up to £42,995. However, this vehicle is the first of the new Land Rovers and some buyers may be tempted to wait until the release of the Sport with eD4 turbo diesel engine, which is expected to make its debut in 2016. This option delivers lower emissions (119g/km compared to 157g/km on the newly launched model) and the starting price is expected to be lower, at £30,000.

Following this, the new Land Rover Defender will be put into production, although it is believed that this will be in 2018 at the earliest. If you want to get your hands on a Defender this year, you may be tempted by one of the limited edition models that have been released. Land Rover has created 400 Heritage Edition Defenders which will sell for £27,800, along with 600 bright orange Adventure Edition Defenders for £43,495. At the top end of the market, 80 Land Rover Defender Autobiography Edition are being sold for £61,845 apiece.
