Rubgy World Cup

April 22, 2015 3:00 pm

Headingley Stadium in Leeds is the only stadium in the world where both Rugby Union and Rugby League matches are held. As a city with a strong and historic connection with Rugby Union, Leeds was delighted to be named as one of the 11 cities to host matches in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. No matter where you are travelling from, you can be sure of a friendly welcome in a city with a great pride in its rugby heritage.

Held once every four years, The Rugby World Cup is a 6 week event, which kicks off with an England verses Fiji game at Twickenham. This is followed by a further 47 matches at 13 venues across the UK. These include Canada verses Italy and USA verses Scotland, both of which will be held at Elland Road, Leeds in September.

Rugby Union originated England during the nineteenth century. There are still many passionate players and supporters across the country, many of whom will be turning out to watch the matches and cheer on the players during this year’s World Cup. In addition, fans from around the globe are expected to travel to the UK for this international tournament.

If you love the game, but have been unable to get tickets, all is not lost. Across the country, Fanzones will be set up to provide entertainment, events and live screenings of the matches, to ensure everyone who wants to can get involved. In Leeds, the Fanzone will be set up in Millenium Square, right in the heart of the city.

Join like-minded supporters with a passion for rugby and cheer jubilantly as the players successfully ground the ball in the in-goal area, achieve conversion and penalty kicks or drop goals. Will the 2011 World Cup winners New Zealand retain their title or will 2015 see another top international team rise to the top?
