The Success of Bond
October 12, 2015 4:32 pmAt the end of October, the much awaited Bind film, Spectre will be released. Cinema goers will be no doubt treated to the aspirational delights of exotic destinations, beautiful women, thrilling car chases, innovative gadgets and suave phrases that will be quoted for many years to come.
The bond movies have certainly stood the test of time and adapted to remain contemporary even after over fifty years of production. They follow the good versus evil theme and although everyone in the audience knows that Bond will survive no matter what, there is no shortage of thrills to keep their interest.
The dry humour, action packed adventures and very Britishness of the Bond films have all been fundamental in their success. The films are produced to have a broad appeal and the tried and tested formula has consistently resulted in good entertainment. Expectations are high and box office takings on the first weekend of release will be closely monitored and reported in the media.
James Bond has been described as every man’s dream; an ideal portrayal of masculinity. He has style and integrity, is powerful and strong and is essentially free to explore the world and the opportunities it throws at him. In equal measures, he has top quality boys toys at his disposal; from rocket packs and exploding watches to luxury yachts and exceptional cars.
Bond Cars
A Bond film simply wouldn’t be a Bond film without an epic car chase. Putting speed and technology to the test, we all know that both Bond and his rivals will be driving some of the most aesthetically pleasing, fast and responsive cars as the plot develops.
Over the years, we have seen a wide variety of bond cars including the Bentley Continental GT, Ford Fairline, Ferrari F353 GT, Aston Martin Vanquish, BMW Z8 and Lotus Esprit. In the latest Spectre film, we will see the villain driving an orange Jaguar C-X75 and a chase through a winter wonderland in Austria in a Range Rover Sport SVR and Land Rover Defender. Fitted with off road tyres, these robust vehicles aren’t reliant on special effects filming to complete the scenes.
The Range Rover and Land Rover 4×4 vehicles certainly have the strength and durability to not only tackle the terrain, but to also do it in style. As a tough, adaptable and powerful vehicle, which also exudes quality, class and style, they are a perfect match the image of a Bond movie.
4×4 Vehicle Hire
Much as some people would love to live like Bond, he is a fictional character. His non-stop battle to survive, save the world and maintain a certain dignity would certainly clash with most people’s reality when it comes to fulfilling our careers and family responsibilities. Having said this, there are ways in which we might all have a taste of his lifestyle. You don’t need to head off on a long haul flight, do battle with a power crazy nemesis, dress in black tie or have an affair to get a taste of the action.
The first step might be to book a couple of night’s stay in a classy hotel in the country, hire a 4×4 vehicle for the weekend and whisk your wife or partner away for a romantic break in the country.
With 4×4 hire, you can get behind the wheel and experience the drivability, comfort and luxury of a Range Rover Sport or Land Rover Defender. If you book with a nationally renowned company such as 4×4 Vehicle Hire, you can feel reassured that no matter which make and model you select, it will be a high specification vehicle, which is maintained in top condition and comes with inclusive insurance.
So, with a destination in mind, a lovely lady by your side and the right vehicle to drive, you’re off on the right track. Add in the chance for some new experiences, such as clay pigeon shooting or rock climbing and an evening of cocktails at the bar and you could certainly be feeling the part.
End of the Road?
The life of a top secret agent hasn’t lost its intrigue in the decades since the first James Bond films hit our screens, so Spectre is unlikely to be the end of the road for a very British hero. If you enjoy watching the plot unfold, you might like to consider getting a taste of the action.
