As the summer of 2016 rolls in, brides and grooms across the UK are getting ready to set the next wave of trends that takeover wedding ceremonies throughout the country. All of which will undoubtedly be a fad that will be overshadowed by the year’s end, but will still create memories that those involved will never forget.

In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the wedding trends we have to look forward to in 2016. Ranging from dramatic changes in how couples are decorating their ceremonies to an end to the traditional wedding cake, each of these upcoming trends are certain to provide inspiration for your big day.

A Coupling of Memories

As it becomes increasingly difficult to have a truly ‘original’ wedding, couples across the UK are turning to their memories to set their special day apart from others. After all, no two couples share the exact same memories.

Some couples are bringing elements of these memories into their ceremony and reception. For example, a couple who got engaged in San Francisco may have a tram carriage at their reception for guests to have photos taken in.

The beauty of this new trend is that it’s out of nobodies’ reach, whatever your budget. After all, memories can range from scents, sounds, lighting and monuments. Renowned events planner and Creative Director of VLD Events, Alison Laesser-Keck, went as far as to call this trend ‘the new destination wedding’.

Bringing the Outside In

Woodland themed weddings have seen a dramatic rise in popularity throughout the past year alone, and as 2016’s wedding season approaches this is likely to continue. Such weddings bring the dense greenery and wood textures associated with the woods inside, whether that be at the ceremony itself or reception. These decorations are also often accompanied by intriguing scents and organic food.

For those who want to go a step further, an outdoors wedding is often on the cards. Whilst they can be ruined by an unexpected downfall, on a summers day they can make for an incredible experience for both the couple and guests.  Some outdoor weddings we’ve seen have thrown out the chairs and replaced them with bales of hay. Adding to the natural and summery feel.

The Demise of the Wedding Cake

The wedding cake has been a staple around the world for centuries. Yet, today more couples are replacing cake with an array of sweets and treats from across the continent. These include the traditional Pick ‘n Mix, donuts and cookies. The rise of this trend isn’t to suggest that wedding cakes have come to an end altogether. They are, in fact, simply becoming more extravagant. Something which is undoubtable a result of preposterous celebrity weddings throughout the past decade.

Shoulders on Show

The traditional wedding gown is quickly becoming a thing of history. Instead, brides across the UK are quickly turning into so-called ‘boho brides’ with less extravagant and more subtle dresses.

These dresses increasingly feature open shoulders and pastel colours, particularly those weddings held during the summer months of July and August. Beyond the bride, bridesmaids and guests are also turning to more subtle dresses. Although, those bridesmaids are no longer supplied with mandatory ‘uniforms’, but instead adorn themselves in an array of styles and colours chosen by themselves.

Cars to Wow

Mercedes and BMW’s have quickly become a common sight at weddings. Throughout the past five years however brides and their grooms have been arriving in cars to wow. These range from Bentley Continental’s and Range Rover Sport’s. All of which provide a level of luxury and sophistication that many couples desire on their special day.

4×4 Vehicle Hire, who provide wedding car hire across the UK, are often among the first choice for couples planning their special day who are in search for the ideal vehicle. Our selection of wedding cars, which include Range Rover’s, are certain to put a smile on the brides face and make the groom look even more handsome.

Whatever trends take to the stage in 2016, they are certain to leave guests wide-eyed. More importantly, they will undoubtedly create memories that both the bride and groom will treasure for decades to come.
